Gail (aka Nightsongs) is a triangular shawl, knit from the neck down. This was my first design released through Ravelry and it has taught me a lot of things.
I came up with the idea after receiving an amazing gift from another Ravelry user (Nightsongs - hence the aka in the name of the pattern). She sent me a skein of Handmaiden Seasilk, with one caveat: I had to knit something for myself with it.
That skein of yarn was so luxurious, so soft and shiny, I was afraid to even touch it. It took me a week to gather the courage to take it out of the box and maybe a month or so to turn the ball into a skein.
Once the yarn was made into a ball, the dilemma of what to do with it began. I searched all over the internet trying to figure out what to do, but didn't like anything available at the time. Then, one day I decided to use one very cool leaf pattern I'd seen elsewhere.
It took me a week to knit the original shawl and I guess, a lot of beginner's luck, as I had no idea what I was doing nor how to do it :P.
Since I couldn't give the finished object away, I came up with the idea of sharing the pattern with the group that both Nightsongs and I belonged to. I was expecting one, maybe two people to knit it...
